The Tú y Yo Program

El programa de Tú y Yo se fundó en 2013 para encontrar la razón sobre el bullying contra las personas con austimo. Eventualmente evolucionó para concentizar a las comunidad sobre el autismo a travez de presentaciones de los participantes de Tu y Yo con autismo pasadas en sus experiencias personales.

The program was founded in 2013 to find the reason behind bullying against children with Autism and eventually evolved to provide valuable information about Autism, such as the symptoms of Autism, the reasoning behind the actions of those with Autism, and how to socialize with someone with Autism. Members of Tú y Yo host presentations in various locations throughout Chicagoland and are always updating presentations with new information surrounding Autism.

When the participants of Tú y Yo aren't giving presentations, they can usually be found congregating with one another about any revisions they might have about a presentation. During their breaks from Tú y Yo, the participants love to hang out and play board games. Some of the group's favorite games include: Sorry!, Monopoly, Candy Land, and La Lotería (a Mexican staple). What does Tú y Yo do?

Los miembros de Tú y Yo organizan presentaciones regularmente en varios lugares de Chicagoland. Estas presentan una lista de conceptos erroneos en torno al autismo y evidencia que los desacredita. Además, los miembros de Tú y Yo informan a su audiencia sobre formas de ayudar a las personas con autismo a desarrollar habilidades cruciales, como la socialización. Members of Tú y Yo regularly host presentations in various locations throughout Chicagoland. These presentations contain a list of misconceptions surrounding Autism and evidence that debunks them. In addition, Tú y Yo members inform their audience of ways to help those with Autism develop crucial skills, such as socialization. They are also educated on how they can understand and incorporate those with Autism into their social circles.

En en año 2017, Tú y Yo fueron a la cuidad de Springfield, Illinois para presentar durante un conferencia. En este presentacion, el grupo enfocaron en construyendo un biblioteca perfecto para las personas con autismo. Habladon sobre las varias servicios y characerísticas dentro del bilbioteca que ayudarán a las personas con autismo. In 2017, Tú y Yo traveled to Springfield to give a presentation during a conference. This presentation focused on the group's idea of the perfect library and how its various support services and characteristics will address the needs of those with autism. What does Tú y Yo aim to accomplish?

El objetivo del programa Tú y Yo es educar a los padres sobre los conceptos erroneos que rodean al autismo y eclipsarlos con información valiosa y objetiva. Muchos de estos conceptos erroneos todavía son fuertemente creídos por un gran grupo de personas, cuya perspectiva de las personas que viven con autismo se forma a partir de estos estereotipos. The goal of the Tú y Yo program is to educate parents of the misconceptions that surround Autism and overshadow them with valuable, factual information. Many of these misconceptions are still strongly believed by a large group of individuals, who's perspective of those living with autism are formed from these stereotypes. Some of these stereotypes include:

Por supuesto, en su mayor parte, estos estereotipos no son ciertos. Las personas con autismo SÍ quieren socializar, SÍ sienten emociones y muchos PUEDEN comunicarse verbalmente. Of course, for the most part, these stereotypes aren't true. Those with Autism DO want to socialize, they DO feel emotion, and many CAN communicate verbally. Although there are certainly exceptions that support such sterotypes, many of them can be debunked by the average person with Autism.
With additional support from others with or without Autism, many individuals with Autism can overcome these stereotypes to lead fulfilling lives. Tú y Yo aimes to accompish this by providing tips on how to help those with Autism socialize, communicate, develop their emotions, and initiate and maintain platonic and/or romantic relationships.

About Phillip

Sobre Phillip

Phillip es uno de los fundadores del programa Tú y Yo. Él ha sido asociado con Grupo Salto desde el año 2010, cuando empezó a tocar canciones con su guitarra en las clases de música. Por años, muchos niños les encantó escuchar su voz de oro y miel. Philip gustaba cantar canciones del pueblo y también cantaba canciones populares en Inglés y Español. Hoy en este día, Philip sigue cantando canciones en sesiones virtuales con Miguel Saucedo, otro cantante y participante del Grupo Salto.

Phillip is one of the founding members of the Tú y Yo program. He has been associated with Grupo Salto since 2010, when he first took over the music program as a guitarist. For years, his golden, honey-like voice charmed various groups of kids with folk songs that were song in English and Spanish.

En el año 2013, el programa de Tú y Yo fue creado para difundir el conocimiento sobre los mitos de Autismo. Otra meta del programa es el hablar de bullying a las personas con Autismo. Los pariticipantes querían discutir cómo los padres pueden combatir el bullying. Como se mencionó previamente, Phillip fue uno de los fundadores del programa de Tú y Yo. Él contribuyó significativamente a Tú y Yo en las presentaciones, seminarios, juntas, y páneles. Años después de la creación de Tú y Yo, Phillip continua impartiendo su tiempo para mantener su condición de participante contribuyente.

In 2013, the Tú y Yo program was founded as a means to spread awareness of the myths surrounding Autism. In addition, the participants wanted to discuss bullying of those with Autism and how individuals can combat such bullying. As mentioned previously, Phillip was one of the founding participants of Tú y Yo. He contributed greatly towards many aspects of the program, such as: presentations, seminars, group meetings, and panels. Years after Tú y Yo's inception, Phillip continues to impart his time to maintain his status as a contributing participant.

About Eileen

Sobre Eileen

Eileen fue diagnosticada con autismo a la edad de 4 años. Según su madre, tenía el vocabulario de un niña de 8 meses en el momento del diagnóstico. Aun así, logró superar enormes obstáculos y lograr hazañas que son inalcanzables para muchas personas. Una de esas hazañas es graduarse como la mejor de su clase, otra es asistir a la universidad. Eileen asiste a la Universidad de Lawrence y se especializa en Ingeniería. Actualmente está en su tercer año.

Eileen was diagnoised with Autism at the age of 4. According to her mother, she had the vocabulary of an 8 month old at the time of diagnosis. Even still, she managed to overcome enormous obstacles and accomplish feats that are unreachable to many individuals. One such feat is graduating at the top of her class, another is attending college. Eileen attends Lawrence University and is majoring in Engineering. She is currently in her third year.

Eileen ha contribuyó al programa de Tú y Yo mediante asistiendo a las reuniones, añadiendo al presentaciones, y proveyendo revisiones. Hoy, Eileen esta trabajando en UIC como Extra Help donde ella cuidó a los niños y organizó juntos virtual donde ella juegó varias tipos de juegos con los niños.

Eileen has contributed towards the Tú y Yo program by attending meetings, adding to presentations, and giving suggestions about revisions. Eileen is currently working in UIC as an Extra Help, wherein she assists in caring for children attending Grupo Salto seminars, and hosting virtual meetings. In these virtual meetings, Eileen hosts various games and plays with children.

Sobre Israel

Israel fue diagnosticado con autismo en 2003, cuando tenía 2 años. Su madre comenzó a notar síntomas de autismo un año antes del diagnostico, cuando lloraba en exceso y rara vez interactuaba con sus padres. Tras el diagnóstico de autismo de su hijo, la madre de Israel inició una lucha larga y viscosa para conocer los entresijos del autismo y recibir la mayor cantidad posible de servicios que podrían haber sido asignados a su hijo. Israel was diagnosed with Autism in 2003, when he was 2. His mother began noticing symptoms of Autism a year prior to the diagnosis, when he would cry excessively and rarely interact with his parents. Upon her son's diagnosis of Autism, Israel's mother initialized a lengthy and viscous fight to learn the in's-and-out's of Autism and receive the largest possible number of services that could've been allocated to her son. After his mother had discovered Grupo Salto, Israel became involved with Grupo Salto and eventually, Tú y Yo. Israel currently attends DePaul University and is in his fourth and final year. He is majoring in Computer Science.

Israel se convirtió en participante de Tú y Yo en 2015 poco después de haber dejado de asistir a los programas de Grupo Salto dirigidos a niños. Israel became a Tú y Yo participant in 2015 shortly after he had stopped attending the Grupo Salto programs aimed towards children. There, he attended meetings, contributed towards presentations, and participated in seminars as a speaker. Like Eileen, Israel works as an Extra Help. He archives medical records and contributes to the Grupo Salto website. He is the author of this webpage.
